Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Vangie ("we," "us," "our") collects when you use our website, chat, and phone/voice features (the "Service"), why we collect it, and the choices you have. It's part of our Terms of Service.
Vangie deals with personal, sometimes sensitive information — what you share about your faith, your feelings, and your life. We try to collect only what the Service needs to care for you well, and to be plain about what happens to it.
1. Information we collect
Account & profile
- Name, email address, and password (handled securely by our authentication provider).
- Optional phone number, if you want Vangie to call you.
- Onboarding details you choose to share: age range, life season, faith tradition and stage, preferred encouragement style, and call/notification preferences.
Conversations & memory
- Your chat messages with Vangie, and Vangie's replies.
- Audio and/or transcripts of phone calls with Vangie's voice agent, and call metadata (time, duration, outcome).
- Images, PDFs, and notes you choose to share in chat.
- "Journey" memory Vangie keeps to be consistent across conversations — for example, prayers you've asked Vangie to hold, a focus for the week, or notes about what matters to you.
Billing
- Subscription status and plan, handled through RevenueCat and Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number — payment details are handled directly by those providers.
Usage & device data
- Basic analytics about how our website is used (via Google Analytics, Vercel Analytics and the Meta pixel), such as pages visited and general engagement, to help us improve Vangie. These run on the website, not inside the mobile app.
- Standard technical data like IP address, browser type, and device information.
2. How we use this information
- To provide the Service — running conversations, remembering context, and placing calls you've asked for.
- To personalize responses to your tradition, life season, and preferences.
- To send account, verification, and (if you don't opt out) proactive check-in communications.
- To send occasional product/marketing email about new features and updates — separate from account email, and you can opt out anytime.
- To process payments and manage your subscription.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
- To understand usage patterns and improve Vangie over time.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your conversations to advertise to you.
3. Who we share it with
AI providers
Vangie is an AI companion, so answering you means sending what you share to the AI companies below. We name each one, and what each one receives, so you can decide before you use Vangie — the app asks for your permission on a dedicated screen before anything is sent, and you can read the same list any time at Settings › How Vangie uses AI.
- Anthropic (Claude) — writes Vangie's replies in chat. Receives your messages, any image or PDF you attach, your first name, faith tradition, age range, life season and faith stage, and the journey notes Vangie keeps for you (such as prayers you've asked her to hold).
- OpenAI — stands in for Anthropic if it is unavailable, finds scripture and readings that match what you raised, and draws greeting-card images. Receives the same conversation content and attachments when Vangie falls back, a short phrase describing what you are working through when she looks up a reading, and your faith tradition when she makes a card.
- ElevenLabs — gives Vangie her voice on calls. Receives your call audio, streamed directly from your device, plus your first name, tradition, life season, faith stage and journey notes. ElevenLabs stores a transcript and a summary of each call on its own platform so you can read the call back afterwards.
- YouTube (Google), Spotify and Deezer — searched when Vangie suggests a song, sermon or talk. Receive a short phrase describing what you are working through, together with your faith tradition. Your messages themselves are never sent.
These companies process your information for Vangie and on our instructions, under agreements that require them to protect it to the same standard we do and to use it only to provide Vangie. We do not sell your information, and we do not use your conversations to advertise to you.
Everyone else
We share information with service providers who help us run Vangie, under agreements that limit what they can do with it:
- Twilio — connects and routes phone calls and SMS.
- RevenueCat & Stripe — process subscription payments.
- Resend — delivers transactional email (verification, password reset) and, if you haven't opted out, occasional product/marketing email; handles unsubscribe requests for marketing email.
- Neon (Postgres) & Vercel — host our database and application infrastructure. Vercel Blob also stores the greeting-card images Vangie makes for you.
- Expo — delivers push notifications to your phone. Receives your device's push token and the text of the notification, which can include a check-in note Vangie wrote for you.
- Google Analytics, Vercel Analytics and the Meta pixel — provide aggregate usage analytics on our website. These run on the website only, not inside the mobile app, and they never receive your conversations.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect someone's safety, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with notice to you where required).
4. How long we keep it
We keep your account and conversation data for as long as your account is active, so Vangie can remember your context. If you delete your account, we'll delete or de-identify your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep certain records (like billing history) for legal or accounting reasons.
5. Your choices & rights
- Access, correction, deletion, or export. Email support@vangie.app if you'd like a copy of your data or help with a correction. To delete your account yourself, open Settings → Account → Delete my account in the app or on the web: we email you a confirmation link, and once you confirm, your account, subscription state, conversations, and check-in history are removed.
- Proactive outreach. Turn off calls and in-app reminders anytime in Settings, or just tell Vangie in chat.
- Marketing email. Turn off "Vangie news & updates" anytime in Settings, or use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing email. This never affects account emails like password resets.
- Marketing/analytics. You can use browser or device settings to limit analytics cookies and tracking.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the EU/UK GDPR or US state privacy laws (such as the CCPA/CPRA) — including the right to know what we hold about you, to correct or delete it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Contact us to exercise them.
6. Children's privacy
Vangie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Users between 13–17 may use Vangie only with a parent or guardian's knowledge and consent. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information — including encryption in transit and access controls on our systems. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we take this seriously given the personal nature of what people share with Vangie.
8. International transfers
Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for transfers of personal data across borders.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll let you know before they take effect.

Questions about this policy or your data? Reach us at support@vangie.app.
This policy describes Vangie's actual data flows: Anthropic and OpenAI for chat, ElevenLabs for voice, Twilio for calls, RevenueCat and Stripe for billing, and Neon/Vercel for hosting. If anything here is unclear, or you want to exercise a right we haven't made easy enough, email us and we'll help.
