Terms of Service
Last updated: August 9, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Vangie, including our website, chat, and phone/voice features (together, the "Service"), provided by the operator of Vangie ("Vangie," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. What Vangie is — and isn't
Vangie is an AI companion that offers spiritual encouragement, reflective conversation, and gentle check-ins by chat and phone, shaped to the faith tradition or worldview you tell us about.
Vangie is not, and does not claim to be:
- A licensed pastor, imam, rabbi, chaplain, spiritual director, or other religious authority.
- A licensed therapist, counsellor, psychologist, psychiatrist, or other mental health professional.
- A medical provider, and it does not diagnose or treat any condition.
- An emergency or crisis service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, or you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, contact local emergency services (in the US, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911) right away. Do not rely on Vangie in an emergency.
Vangie's responses are generated by AI language models and, for phone calls, AI voice technology. AI can be wrong, can misunderstand what you say, and can occasionally produce responses that are inaccurate, incomplete, or don't reflect the teachings of your tradition correctly. Use your own judgment, and treat Vangie as a supplement to — never a replacement for — real human community, pastoral care, licensed professional support, and your own relationship with your faith.
2. Who can use Vangie
You must be at least 13 years old to use Vangie. If you are between 13 and 17 years old, you may only use Vangie with the knowledge and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Service. Vangie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.
By using Vangie, you represent that the information you provide during sign-up and onboarding (including your age range) is accurate.
3. Your account
You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us and for keeping your login credentials secure. Let us know right away if you believe your account has been compromised. You may not share your account, impersonate someone else, or use Vangie for anyone other than yourself.
4. Subscriptions, trials, and billing
Vangie offers a free tier and "Vangie Plus," a paid subscription (billed monthly or annually) that unlocks additional features. Specific pricing is shown at checkout and may change with notice.
- Free trial. New accounts may start a time-limited free trial of Vangie Plus, as described at sign-up. Trials can be skipped, and once a trial ends, continued access to Plus features requires an active paid subscription.
- Auto-renewal. Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually) until you cancel. You authorize us and our payment processors to charge your chosen payment method for each renewal at the then-current price.
- Payment processing. If you subscribe inside our iOS app, Apple is the seller of record: payment is charged to your Apple Account, and billing, cancellation, and refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms. If you subscribe on the web, payment is handled by our processors (RevenueCat and Stripe) under their own terms. We never store your full card number.
- Cancellation. You can cancel anytime. For App Store subscriptions, cancel in your device's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. For web subscriptions, use the manage-subscription link in Settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Refunds. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. For web purchases, and except where refunds are required by law, payments are non-refundable including partial billing periods. If something went wrong with a charge, contact us and we'll look into it.
5. Acceptable use
Please don't use Vangie to:
- Break the law, or harass, threaten, or harm anyone.
- Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or misuse the underlying AI models, or use the Service to build a competing product.
- Upload content you don't have the right to share, or that infringes someone else's rights.
- Send sexual content involving minors, or attempt to use Vangie for any sexual purpose involving a minor — this is never acceptable and will be reported where required by law.
- Interfere with the Service's security or normal operation, including through automated scraping, load testing, or attempts to bypass usage limits.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, misuse the Service, or create risk or legal exposure for Vangie or others.
6. Your content and Vangie's memory
You keep ownership of what you share with Vangie — messages, prayers, notes, images, and documents ("Your Content"). By sharing it, you give us a limited license to store, process, and use Your Content to operate the Service, including so Vangie can remember relevant details (like ongoing prayers or a focus you're working on) across conversations. See our Privacy Policy for how this data is stored and for how long.
Don't share Your Content if you're not comfortable with it being processed by AI systems, including third-party AI providers described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Proactive outreach
If you enable it, Vangie may reach out to you first — through in-app reminders or a phone call — based on the preferences you set. You can turn this off anytime in Settings or by asking Vangie directly in chat.
8. Intellectual property
Vangie, including its name, branding, design, and underlying software, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. These Terms don't grant you any rights to our trademarks or brand assets beyond what's needed to use the Service normally.
9. Third-party services
Vangie is built on top of third-party providers — including AI model providers, voice technology, telephony, email delivery, hosting, and payment processing. We're not responsible for outages, errors, or changes on their end, though we'll do our best to keep the Service working smoothly.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that Vangie's responses will be accurate, theologically sound for your specific tradition, uninterrupted, or error-free.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Vangie and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or $100 if you haven't paid us anything.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited (for example, in the case of gross negligence or willful misconduct, where applicable).
12. Termination
You can stop using Vangie and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, or if we discontinue the Service, with notice where reasonably possible. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (like billing history, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll let you know (for example, by email or an in-app notice) before they take effect. Continuing to use Vangie after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. You and we agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service. Nothing here removes any right you have to bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live, or any protection you have under the mandatory consumer laws of that country.
15. Apple App Store
The following applies if you obtained Vangie through the Apple App Store. These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple, and we alone are responsible for Vangie and its content. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Vangie. If Vangie fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to Vangie, including product liability, any failure to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection or similar legislation. Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending, settling, or discharging any third-party claim that Vangie infringes intellectual property rights. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
